new.lds.org Now Available!

new.lds.org is now available!

Some new features:

  • Great new search (try out the facets!)

  • Prophets and Apostles Speak Today

  • Church News and Events

  • Church Organization

  • Temples

  • Humanitarian Service

  • "Our Heavenly Father's Plan"

  • New e-store

  • New Ward Calendar (with Google Calendar integration) and Ward Directory

  • My Notebook (this is amazing and will sync with your mobile device in about a month or so). To try it out, login and go to scriptures or general conference. When you mouse-over a paragraph, you can tag and mark stuff and type in your own notes.

  • And so on, and so on...

The team was up all night against harrowing opposition and went live at 5:00am or so. Conference, magazines and manuals go back to 2002 or so, but we'll be loading more content each day, eventually reaching back to the 1970's. We will have Spanish and German versions available before October conference.

We're finding and fixing bugs so please give us feedback.

Enjoy! (And spread the word...)

  1. Has anything been added since beta.lds.org? It looks like beta.lds.org is redirecting here now, but I don't see many changes at first glance. The things from your list all seem like they've been on the beta site.

[jpd: much of the stuff on new was on beta. We change beta every month. This is going "live" with the official version. There are new things this month, though.]

  2. The new calendar app doesn't appear to be populated with the current calendar data for my ward and stake. Will that data be migrated to the new calendar app in the future?

  3. I can see there is no concern about privacy whatsoever. I just logged in and I saw, and even exported all the member information from my own ward, with all the data of my family showing by default. During the beta I warned through the feedback that this was not only dangerous but illegal (nobody asked my concent to publish information of my family, nor to allow somebody to download it from the Church). I already "updated my profile", but still I have to warn all the members about it... I'm so angry that I'm really considering starting legal actions.

  4. Great work Joel. I love the new design and ward directory info. Why is the directory information different on the current site though? My current online directory shows incomplete data for YM/YW leaders, but is valid in the new one, so MLS must be right somewhere but the current stake/ward directory isn't getting updated online correctly?

  5. to timheuer:

The old ward directory isn't integrated with MLS, so callings in the leadership area are only as current as your ward website admin keeps them. In the new.lds.org/directory, callings are pulled from your MLS system.

  6. Will the photos that were posted in the old version be imported into the new.lds.org?
Will the stake calendar information be imported also?
It took me awhile to figure out where the ward website was located.
Where is the link for the web admins?

  7. Great job on the layout and design. I didn't notice the Tools menu at the top right away but once I did, I very much appreciated the separated shortcuts to Calendar and Stake Directories. The UI for looking up names is far better than it was. Great work!

  8. I love the new look. It is gorgeous. You wanted feedback...I went to the "Notebook" feature and there is no explanation how to use this feature posted on the site, nor as pop-up mouse-overs as you push "my items" or "my folders". It looks like it could be promising, but how do you use it?

I think edit rights are granted to certain callings, like clerks. I know of at least one clerk in our ward who *didn't* have web rights before who now does...

  10. New.lds looks great on the iPhone 4, but do you know what would look even better? A Church channel on iTunes. It would be nice to get the content without having to "rip" a DVD. Yes, I know resources are limited but there is a powerful reason to do so : advancing missionary work. Can you point to a better, more efficient distribution system to spread missionary videos to the world?

  11. Are these ideas considered or responded to? There is a HUGE feature missing on the new calendar. It looks awesome and has GREAT features however, we should be able to send e-mail blasts for RSVP like Google Calendar does to help in filling church assignments and such. IT works sooooo awesome. Can you guys implement something like that?
