I've often wondered about the security of Dropbox. This article discusses it. Net-net is that the security seems to be awful. There is a file on your computer which, if someone gets access to, allows them to access you dropbox without authenticating. Malware could be written to grab this file. Or someone could just nick it.
The article recommends the following:
- Don't use dropbox
- If you do use dropbox, encrypt all of your files
- Remove old systems from your list of authorized systems
Dropbox has already released an update that keeps the file from working on other machines, but if malware can grab that file, it can just as easily grab all the files on your machine, in or out of Dropbox.
ReplyDeleteI think it is in large how you use it. I use it to keep pictures on that my wife will probably latter upload to Facebook or one of her scrape-booking sites after she makes a layout. I don't put up things that I am worred about people seeing..
ReplyDeleteFor me it is a convent tool and frankly if they have maleware on my system that can take one file they can take all of them so....
